Mukwonago Water Softener Co. Call(262) 829-5961

Where to find Mukwonago's hardness when the water report leaves it out

Plenty of utilities print hardness somewhere in their yearly water report. Mukwonago's does not, so anyone who wants the number has to look one step further, to the Wisconsin DNR.

What the village report skips

The Village of Mukwonago puts out an annual Consumer Confidence Report on its water, the 2024 edition among them. Those reports give no hardness figure.

That leaves a household without a village-supplied number for one of the main things a softener quote needs, unless it knows where else to look.

The DNR's compliance samples

The Wisconsin DNR keeps a public portal of drinking water data, with a page for the Mukwonago waterworks. Compliance samples taken there on June 16 and 17, 2026 at the village's two entry points list hardness: 390 milligrams per liter at one and 370 at the other.

Entry points are where water from the wells goes into the village's pipes, so these samples show the deep and shallow wells after the utility has blended them.

Turning milligrams per liter into grains

A softener's setting is in grains per gallon, and the DNR reports milligrams per liter. Dividing the DNR's figures by 17.1 gives grains: 390 comes to about 23, 370 to about 22.

Each one is over twice 10.5 grains, the point where the USGS scale switches to very hard. Mixing the two depths does not bring village water anywhere close to soft.

What the samples can and cannot tell you

They tell you what village water read at its two entry points over two June days in 2026. Nothing in them ties an entry point to a street, and they do not cover private wells in the Town of Mukwonago or Vernon.

For a home on village water, they make a sound starting point. The plumber's test at your kitchen faucet is the reading the softener follows.

Bringing the numbers to the call

On village water, say so and give your address; the DNR figures take care of the starting point. If you have had your own water tested, read us that result and its unit as well.

You do not need to find the portal yourself. Saying you are on village water is enough for the call to start from the June 2026 figures, and the plumber's faucet test does the rest.

Common questions

Is a June 2026 sample recent enough to use?

For a starting point, yes. It is a recent, published figure for village water, and the plumber's faucet test checks it against your house.

What if my own test disagrees with the DNR's?

Bring both to the call. The DNR samples describe the village system at its two entry points, your test describes your own faucet, and the plumber's reading on install day settles the setting.
