Mukwonago, WI water hardness

Mukwonago water hardness

Mukwonago's annual water reports print no hardness figure. The numbers a household can actually use come from the Wisconsin DNR, which sampled the village's two entry points in June 2026.

The village supply, drawn from two depths

Homes on village water are served by the Village of Mukwonago water utility. It runs five wells: two deep ones that reach 1,500 feet, and three shallow ones between 105 and 180 feet. The utility blends the shallow water with the deep.

The numbers: two entry points, June 2026

Wisconsin DNR compliance samples taken June 16 and 17, 2026 found 390 milligrams per liter at one village entry point and 370 at the other. Once divided by 17.1, those come to about 23 and 22 grains per gallon.

The village's 2024 Consumer Confidence Report gives no hardness figure, so those DNR samples are the published numbers to work from.

What the samples leave out

They describe blended village water at its two entry points. They say nothing about a private well, and private wells are common out in the Town of Mukwonago and in Vernon.

They are also a snapshot from two June days. Your own faucet gets read by the plumber, before anything is connected, on install day.

Two samples, both past twice the very hard line

On the USGS scale, the four bands break at 60, 120 and 180 milligrams per liter: soft below the first break, then moderately hard, then hard, and very hard above 180, which matches 10.5 grains.

Both Mukwonago entry points clear that last line by more than double: 370 and 390 against 180.

Finding Mukwonago's samples, or your well's number

For village water, the Wisconsin DNR's drinking water portal has a page for the Mukwonago waterworks, and its compliance samples include the June 2026 hardness results. For a private well, the hardness line on the lab report is the number, in milligrams per liter or grains.

On the call, a village address starts from the DNR samples and a well home from its lab report. Either way the setting follows what your faucet reads on install day, and the visit ends when a retest there reads zero.

Common questions

Is Mukwonago water very hard?

Yes. Both DNR samples, 370 and 390 milligrams per liter, are more than twice the USGS very hard threshold of 180.

Why rely on DNR samples instead of the village's report?

Because the village's annual reports, the 2024 Consumer Confidence Report among them, give no hardness figure. The DNR's June 2026 compliance samples are the published hardness numbers for village water.

Do the DNR samples cover the Town of Mukwonago or Vernon?

Only homes on village water. A private well out in the town or in Vernon has its own hardness, read from a lab report or at the faucet.
